Runza Casserole

Runza Casserole with CookingAndCrafting

Описание:

I prepare a recipe sent to me by a subscriber, abbyloowho, to give a try. You must like cabbage to enjoy this meal. I liked it, mom wasn't too sure she liked it. Give it a try!

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 bags of coleslaw mix (cabbage mix)
2 cans of crescent roll dough (preferably the one that is not already cut but if you can't find that its okay just seal up the seams)
Salt and Lots of Pepper

Preheat the oven to 350 and lightly grease a 9 by 13 pan.
In a large pot place the coleslaw mix in with salt and pepper and cook down for about 20 minutes or until you like how soft it is
Brown the ground beef with salt and pepper
Mix the ground beef and slaw mixture together
Place one can of crescent roll dough into the bottom of the pan
Place in the slaw mixture
Place the second can of crescent roll dough on top and cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for about 30 minutes and the last five remove the foil to allow the top to brown.
Serve nice and hot! You can either use a spoon or cut it and use a spatula.

Abbyloowho's notes:
My family loves using the slaw mix because it has two kinds of cabbage and a little carrot in it(add extra flavor which would be good since you have issues with salt) but if you cant find it no worries just use about 4 cups of shredded cabbage of your choosing!
I am sure you can easily cut this recipe in half and use an 8 by 8 inch pan and reduce the cooking time just a bit!
You can also add cheese if you wish, any kind, about 2 cups worth for a whole recipe!

Beth D пишет: My grandma came here from Germany and used to make runza for us. But they were, as you mentioned, more like yeast buns stuffed with pork, onions, and sauerkraut. I like the idea of making runza into a casserole. Much less labor intensive and time consuming.

CookingAndCrafting пишет: I don't think so, but they do have that 'creations' roll of dough. I have never found it here in Hawaii. yet.

redhotscrapper пишет: I love cabbage so I will definitely give it a try!

CookingAndCrafting пишет: being that I am not a fan of cheese anyway, I didn't actually "get" how cheese would make this better, but I'm always up for trying stuff now and then

winane пишет: Liked and Favorited! Okay not so much for the recipe but that you are singing!!! Yeahhhhhhhhh! That was well worth watching it all the way to the end (which I always do...and sometimes more than once). The recipe...needs something something to make it pop. But then I've never had Runza before.

yoyomax12 - the diet free zone пишет: KInd of like a cabbage roll pie. It is unusual, I want to try it!!!!

imperceptibleme пишет: I would love this dish but I would have to add something maybe to the cabbage and meat mixture. Barb's got a good idea with the vinegar. It looks so good though. Hugs!

CookingAndCrafting пишет: glad to finally start getting all my suggestions done :) Thanks again!

Melody Kelly пишет: OH and a little garlic... :-)

bebebutterfield1 пишет: Well honestly Beth it reminds me of eggroll ingrediants. I was thinking throw some bean sprouts in it and maybe some sweet chili sauce and carrot slivers. I really really really love cabbage. Nice vid and yes I would try it but I'de doctor it up some. It needs some flavor. TY for sharing sweety.

wildheart5 пишет: I never heard of this, but it is definitely worth making. I love cabbage and when I put some vinegar on it, wow, is it good. Lots of ways to change this around with different flavors!

Foxxy Rin пишет: Being that I am a HUGE fan of cheese, I could see how it would make it better. Swiss would be delicious with this! Mmm~

JustNess78 пишет: I was going to try it, but, honestly, when u reviewed the taste and said it's for someone who really, really likes cabbage, I changed my mind.... lol. I kinda, sorta like cabbage, but not really. I really do like the idea of a meat mixture baked with a crossant, though. Maybe I'll put my own spin on it, leave out the cabbage and give it a try :)

Carla Davila пишет: I would fry chopped up bacon with the cabbage. then added the ground beef... Just and idea, I'm not big on cabbage either. =)

Austyne avenged пишет: A family friend recent gave us two huge heads of cabbage and they're taking up the majority of the bottom portion of the fridge, I think this is something that is definitely going to be made :) thanks for sharing it!

Hazeleyez2300 пишет: this looks delicious, im definitely going to try it... i noticed you are using an orgreenic pan in the video, do you have any idea on how to make it non stick again? my nephew accidentally put it in the dish water which sat all night to soak and now it sticks every time and there arent any scratches and re-oiling it isnt helping.

CookingAndCrafting пишет: No clue. I think it's a goner. You have to treat it like a precious child (lol)

Elvis66 пишет: Love thi9s recipe but I was even more surprised to hear you singing!!!! you go girl!!! you sound great!!!!!!!! ;-)

Amber Romero пишет: It looks a tad dry, but maybe something like cheese or a little bit of gravy to bind it all together? We love your recipes!! My fav is the spam sushi!

Monicasdestiny пишет: We make this alot in Nebraska. Some people add 2 or 3 table spoons of cream cheese to the cabbage mixture. We like to use sauerkraut along with the cabbage and meat mixture and put a dollop of Cream cheese and then only use one can of pop n fresh roll out croissant for the top. Just giving you ideas for next time...so you might like it better. :)

Robert Peters пишет: Yum I love runzas! Where I live, they have a restaurant in Colorado called Runza! Great video today!

CookingAndCrafting пишет: Yup. I love it! There are many who don't, but I think they do not follow the instructions that come with it - season the pan, never use it on heat higher than medium, re-season after a few months, etc. If you follow the instructions, it is the best thing you'll ever purchase in your life. If you don't, well, just give your money away ;) lol

joyce2florida2009 пишет: no garlic? or onions? I imagine the cabbage and ground beef would need more seasoning to make this really yummy. And the addition of a little grated cheese wouldn't hurt either---I would try this with variations, thanks for sharing.

You'll Need:

2 pounds ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cans ready to bake crescent rolls
1 package (about 8 slices) Swiss cheese
1 head cabbage, finely shredded
1 medium onion, diced

Procedures : Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan. Cover the bottom of the pan with 1 package of crescent rolls.

Brown ground beef with cabbage and onions. Drain grease from ground beef. Combine ground beef, cabbage and onion with cream of mushroom soup. Pour over crescent rolls. Layer top of ground beef mixture with Swiss cheese. Open second can of crescent rolls and layer over top of Swiss cheese, trying to cover all the cheese, so the cheese does not become browned during baking. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes
