Deviled Ham Ring Appetizer

Deviled Ham Salad Spread Recipe! Noreen's Kitchen

Описание:

Greetings! I had some ham steaks in the fridge that I needed to use and we have to have something yummy on hand for lunches and snacks. So I decided to make this deviled ham salad spread. This is inspired by the Underwood deviled ham in a can from my youth. Which used to be yummy, but as an adult, I find it to be a bit on the fatty side with lots of salt. It is a canned meat, after all, so I think we can do better. And we did!

I am using my food processor for this spread, but I have seen people use their meat grinder on the finest setting to grind this all up to a perfect consistency. I added some onion, sweet pickle relish, honey mustard, grainy mustard, mayo, garlic powder, celery seed and cheddar cheese to the ham and let it grind to a smooth finish. You can choose to add in other things that you enjoy such as dill pickles, pepperoncini, roasted peppers etc. You are the boss of your spread!

I hope you give this a try and I hope you love it. Remember, you can always find the recipe on my website at the link below.

nerdieone1 пишет: Never had ham spread before but this looks delicious. And this is coming from a person who doesn't usually eat ham. I may try this! :)

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: I find the Underwood variety to be very expensive for what you get. We prefer the chicken spread, but I grew up with the deviled ham. I like mine much better for two reasons. I can make a bunch on the cheap and it tastes way better and it doesn't come with a layer of congealed fat on the top of it. Sorry, I know thats gross. Thanks for stopping by! Noreen : )

ladyhawthorne1 пишет: Looks good! Mom always made us bologna salad with bologna, onions & pickles ground up and mixed with mayo. Ham will be much healthier with less fat and no nitrates.

Monicasdestiny пишет: You know what IS absolutely vile?... Rude obnoxious people. Noreen's cooking however is WONDERFUL! She has always given us tried and true honest to goodness home cooking. If you dont like it dont watch it. Go eat at McDonalds...you deserve it.

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: This should not be frozen. Any amount of mayonnaise will break if frozen and you will end up with a horrible mess.

Yvonne Wehr пишет: OK Noreen. I made it using a whole ham steak. We had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and again I had it on toast for breakfast. Even so, I have some leftover. Can I freeze it? Will it do something to the texture?

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: From the Middle of the bread spread you should! LOL! Seriously though. If you place a small amount in the center of the bread and then use the back of a tablespoon to gently spread to the edges, then you can add more on top of that and spread with a butter knife. I understand how easy it is to tear soft bread. The other option is just to toast the bread and that kind of solves the tearing problem.

DeliciousOdyssey пишет: i love ham salad!!! my mother made these all the time. thanks for sharing! xo

caabmusic пишет: I'm expressing my opinion. Disable comments if you can't take people disliking your videos.

Monicasdestiny пишет: Wheat harvest is about to start and this will for sure be in the lunch sacks of our guys this week! Thanks Noreen! Also.... you wouldnt happen to have a good chicken salad recipe would ya? The guys love the one at the country cookin' diner in town it has eggs in it and is devine but I just cant make it like them. :)

Slinkbomb пишет: How is it vile? She clearly states its a spread. The ham is already cooked. So it kinda has to be formed into a paste. When hotdogs are processed they do pretty much the same thing, with worse ingredients. Im sure its pretty good.

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: Due to the fact that there is mayonnaise in this, I would not freeze it. Mayo will separate when frozen. Additionally upon thawing out, it will become very, very watery because of the ham.

chicapoosmommy пишет: Yum.love deviled ham salad, will be making yours tomorrow..Got a nice ham in the freezer will get out..Our save a lot has had some nice bone in hams on sale, cant beat $8.47 for a ham..I make bologna salad so easy I buy chucks about 1 -1 1/2 lb of Krey bologna from deli..simple bologna, mayo, 1 small bell pepper, cheese any kind you like,in processor pulse, about like your ham spread..I don't measure mine been making for yrs, just eyeball it.So good

CookingAndCrafting пишет: I have never had deviled ham!
I may have to try this one out. Looks superb.

grny28 пишет: My grandmother made us bologna & pickle spread with the old meat grinder. Left over roast beef was another good one.

TheLisalpn пишет: looks good

dignansgirl пишет: this may sound like a dumb question, but does celery seed tastes like celery? if so is it really strong in flavor or subtle. I just never tried it before. love your channel!

sha whit пишет: great ham salad!

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: Rick told me his dad used to make something like that with bologna. I offended him when I said it sounded gross. I like the ham version much better than the idea of ground up bologna. I am not a huge fan of hot dogs either. So it's probably just me.

Penny Swaney пишет: Great idea, never waste any food. Use it another way. A close out store in our town has ham pieces for 59 cents a lb. I have been using them for breakfast ham biscuits, but think I will try your ham salad with what is left. Look for those end pieces, not as pretty as those in the high price meat area, but it comes from the same place. Remember that one piece of chicken no one ate can be used for chicken salad.

Roberta Queen пишет: Love all your recipes Noreen...You make the kind of food my family loves..I have become a fan of your channel, you have alot of the same taste in foods as I and also similar beliefs about this country of ours...keep up the great videos.

Yvonne Wehr пишет: Obviously JoyE...a frustrated youtube wannabe. Poor thing. No talent, no channel! Keep watchin' Joy maybe you'll get a clue on how it's done. Good Luck, God Bless and keep trying!

SandyzSerious пишет: Yummmmmmy. Thank you guys.

KissHope пишет: Noreen I use to make ham salad etc at a little corner store many yrs ago, the recipe was the owners. The recipe was not deviled but was very good, however it was two parts ham and one part bolony. I suspect for the price we charged, customers would have been upset to know that. LOL

Christine Ebertshauser пишет: can you freeze this?

Vicki H пишет: Love deviled ham! I agree the canned kind is no where near what it use to be.

armywife пишет: Thank you for this insiration. I just took some leftover holiday ham out of my freezer to make room for the 23 meat birds we grew& just processed. I didnt know what i was going to do with the ham so i got on youtube to search your vids for a leftover ham recipe.... Were you reading my mind? Sometimes I swear you are! Anyone else feel that way? Noreen, master cook, crafter, mom, blogger, mindreader lol

SweetDelPrepper пишет: Thanks Noreen for another fabulous recipe. I used to love the Deviled Ham and I totally agree with you about it going down hill. It's really awful now. I can't wait to try your recipe.

Cliff Davis пишет: I haven't made this yet but it looks & sounds delish. I bet this would be great on a ritz cracker or toasted whole wheat bread. And how about a touch of spicey red pepper flakes. You could use this in a deviled egg recipe too.Its a shame that some people think all you have to do to make a salad is just add mayo but its more than that its more like poerty in motion with all the stuff you have made your salad with and anything else you can add to make it look & taste good. Thanks :>))

Pat Boardman пишет: I love deviled ham and had noticed that the store bought just didn't taste the same as I remember from childhood. I'm sure your recipe is much tastier and healthier. Thank you!

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: I'm not forcing you to make it or watch it. We enjoyed this. If you have never had something you should not really make a comment until you try it. Then if you don't like you can make a comment like that. Until that, you can keep it to yourself.

KissHope пишет: Noreen cooks in her kitchen, it is not a HGTV for show. She is happy and so are her fans, enough said.

Mary Rigby пишет: hello Noreen and Rick my mother made this we loved it as children I make it when we have left over ham I do use the meat grinder easy smeazzy my kids and grand kids love it on crackers on Bread toast on lettuce from the garden a winner all the way around

Noreen's Kitchen пишет: Same answer as before: This should not be frozen. Any amount of mayonnaise will break if frozen and you will end up with a horrible mess.

Yvonne Wehr пишет: Thanks for posting this. I've always loved ham salad but just never made it. There are sooooo many choices! Girl....you don't help with ALL the choices you post. But the ham slice is in the kitchen sink and I'm making it tonight for lunch tomorrow. We had the Sweet and Sou Slaw yesterday intending to have that with our lunch today. Gone in 15 minutes!Same with the Mixed Bean Salad from my youth....I am too old to be eating any kind of beans but it was soooo good! Thank You Noreen.

mommawtobbg242 пишет: I have not had deviled ham in years. My mom made this for us when we were small. There were six children so she had to use up any and all left overs. My mom was a wonderful cook. I am going to try this again. Thanks for the memory! BTW, some people cannot help their ignorance, bad manners and lack of social skills. Obviously they weren't taught or chose to ignore; they thought they knew it all then too. It is probably hard, but I would ignore them. I assure you, no one else cares what they think

Pam Carballoca пишет: i hadn't bought a can of deviled ham in years 20+ or maybe more bought it as a treat a year or so ago could not eat it at all it was greasy and salty and gritty it was a can of nasty shit I threw it away....
