America right now so I can't get my hands on smoked turkey, but I think I will give it a try with a hambone and some sauteed smoked bacon instead. Right on!

lostinkorea28 пишет: @misshaze410 Really, I bet that's a different taste. Any specific tomato? Fresh or canned?

steinsteel пишет: Thanks a lot. I LOVE down to Earth food. Im going to the store tomorrow and buy them black eyed beans.Dont know if they have smoked turkey, but i try smoked pigmeat if they got it.Wouldnt smoked pig leg meat make good broth on this one?? Thanks

tracisec пишет: Cooked it tonight and loved it!! I used regular onion, next time I will try it with green onion just to compare. Thanks Monique and thank you Ateyaaa for the referral.

Divas Can Cook пишет: You can leave the smoked turkey leg whole if you have a big enough pot. If you don't want to serve the meat but still want the smokey flavor I would just slice off a couple of really large pieces of turkey meat and cook that with the peas. When they are done you can remove them easily from the pot.

susie Carmichael пишет: That look delicious, and I don't even like black eyed peas. I'm definitely going to try this recipe.

sara31tx пишет: Not sure where you are from..but I am from Texas and I really enjoy your channel..you cook and season your food just like my grandparents taught me.

I will be trying this out very soon!

Dablkwid0w2008 пишет: Maybe that's what I'm missing chicken broth because my peas always taste like something is missing. I did mines on the fly this year onion powder instead of real onions and garlic powder. Sylvia greens and boil a bag of brown rice. Ultra lazy :(

misstique08 пишет: Hi Monique...I am southern too. Here's an easy trick when cleaning your peas: submerged them in water and all the bad peas will float to the top... and discard...swirl the ones around that remain with your hand or a spoon to make sure there are no more that will float to the top.

Will be following your pecan & sweet potato pie recipe this yr for Thanksgiving! I also printed out this one, your roasted chicken, collard greens, & your candid yams!! I will be awesome by the time my son is born and can enjoy the great food. Thank you!!

mookiesmith18 пишет: Should the beans be real tender from sautéing them or just a little? Cause what about when you cooking the beans in the chicken broth? don't they get tender in there from boiling them? And did it create a aroma around the house? I like when food make the house smell good.

You'll Need:

* 2 ham hocks
* 1 qts. water
* 1 qts. shelled fresh black-eyed peas
* 1 onion, minced
* Salt & pepper to taste

Procedures : Place ham hocks in 4-quart Dutch oven with water; bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes. Add peas, onion and seasoning, cook 35 minutes or until peas are tender. Add more water if needed. Cut up meat from hocks and add to peas to serve
