Hearts of Palm Salad

Betty's Hearts of Palm Salad Recipe








Описание:

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make a refreshing Hearts of Palm Salad. This is great for dieters, and is a nice dish for everyone during the summer—as well as the rest of the year!

Ingredients:

½ cup lighter flavor olive oil
½ cup white wine vinegar
½ cup finely chopped celery
¼ cup finely chopped pimiento or red bell pepper
¼ cup finely chopped onion
¼ cup dill pickle relish
2 tablespoons chopped ripe olives
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
About 6 cups romaine lettuce, washed and torn in pieces
16-oz. can hearts of palm, drained and cut into ½-inch pieces

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine ½ cup olive oil, ½ cup white vinegar, ½ cup chopped celery, ¼ cup chopped pimiento, ¼ cup chopped onion, ¼ cup dill pickle relish, 2 tablespoons chopped ripe olives, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 2 cloves minced garlic. Cover and chill at least 8 hours, or overnight. To serve, arrange torn romaine lettuce on 6 salad plates. Top evenly with hearts of palm pieces. Spoon chilled vegetable mixture evenly over salads. This is a terrific dish for dieters—also vegetarians, but I think everyone will enjoy it! --Betty 

Thanks for this! I only recently tried hearts of palm for the first time and I was looking for ways to use them so I think I will give this a go! In the meantime I'll check out some more of your videos for great ideas! :-)

I first heard of them while watching an episode of Bewitched as a child where Samantha served a hearts of palm salad, so when I noticed them in the grocery I wanted to try them. But there they sat on the shelf with me not really knowing what to do with them. Your recipe looks so tasty I have been inspired to get the can down and finally give them a try. Thanks so much!

It is costly because harvesting in the wild kills the tree. Heart of palm is often eaten in a salad, sometimes called "millionaire's salad."\r

You'll Need:

3 (14.25 ounce) cans hearts of palm, drained and sliced
2 (.7 ounce) packages dry Italian-style salad dressing mix
1/2 cup white wine or champagne vinegar
6 tablespoons water
1 cup olive oil
1 (8 ounce) jar green olives, sliced
1 (6 ounce) can sliced black olives
2 tablespoons bacon bits

Procedures : In a medium bowl, whisk together the dressing mix, vinegar, and water until well blended. Whisk in olive oil. Add hearts of palm to the bowl, and stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
Before serving, sprinkle the green and black olives, and bacon bits over the salad
