Betty's Best Buttermilk Pie
Описание:
In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her Best Buttermilk Pie. This is a version of the pie that I ordered when Rick and I had lunch at Holly Hill Inn in Midway, Kentucky. This is a traditional Southern pie that is very easy to make.
Ingredients:
one 9-inch unbaked pie crust
½ cup butter, melted and cooled
1 ¼ cups sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 eggs, well beaten
½ cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
whipped topping and mint sprigs for garnish
In a large bowl, beat 3 eggs with an electric mixer until well-beaten. Set aside. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ½ cup melted butter (cooled), 1 ¼ cups sugar, and 3 tablespoons flour. Beat with an electric mixer until well combined. Transfer the butter-sugar mixture to the bowl containing the beaten eggs. Add ½ cup buttermilk and 1 tablespoon vanilla. Beat about 2 minutes until homogenous. Pour pie filling into unbaked 9-inch pie crust. Cover pie crust fluting with aluminum foil to protect it from burning. Bake at 350 (F) until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean. Remove from oven immediately and cool on wire rack. Serve at room temperature or chilled, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprig of mint. This is delightful!!! I hope you enjoy this Best Buttermilk Pie! Love, Betty ♥♥♥♥♥

purplepuma123 пишет: I can't wait to try this Betty! Is it similar to a flan? (a very sweet flan maybe?) I do use recipes which call for buttermilk but I don't think it's sold here in France so I use milk and either lemon juice, malt or white vinegar (whatever I have on hand) - I read about this somewhere on the internet. I was wondering, could you reccoment a buttermilk substitute/recipe?

Betty's Kitchen пишет: @TheMOstang1 Hi Ann! Yes, you should store the pie in the refrigerator. Some people like to eat it while it is still chilled. I prefer it warm, so I usually put it a single piece in the microwave for 30 seconds at half-power. If this is for company, you may set it on the counter and let it come to room temperature, and put the garnish on when you cut the pie.

Betty's Kitchen пишет: @TheNass223 Wikipedia: Buttermilk refers to a fermented dairy product produced from cow's milk with a characteristically sour taste caused by lactic acid bacteria. This variant is made in one of two ways:cultured buttermilk is made by adding lactic acid bacteria to milk; Bulgarian buttermilk is created with a different strain of bacteria, which creates more tartness.Whether traditional or cultured, the tartness of buttermilk is due to the presence of acid in the milk.

Valkyrie Grey пишет: This looks delicious! Though, I have a question. Do you think this would hold up well being grilled, instead of baked? The men of the family usually do fruit (apple, blueberry, etc...) pies on the grill but I've never seen a custard-like pie done. I actually love the nice smoked flavoring to a normally baked dessert and since the summer is here, I actually want to do a little bit of experimenting with grilled sweets! <3

The only thing I changed was instead of serving it with a sprig of mint, I served it with blueberries.
Joe Serrano пишет: Ymmmmmmm.......The SOUTH's gonna RISE AGAIN!!!! =D
You'll Need:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
3 eggs
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust with
edges of crust crimped high
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
Procedures : In a large mixing bowl, gradually beat the sugar into the softened butter with an electric mixer, beating until mixture is well blended. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine the all-purpose flour and the salt. Gradually beat these dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Beat in the buttermilk until mixture is well blended. Pour the egg and buttermilk filling into the piecrust. Sprinkle the toasted pecans over the top of the filling in the piecrust. Bake the pie at 300 degrees F for 1 hour and 15 to 20 minutes or until the buttermilk filling is set. Cool. Store the pie in the refrigerator.
NOTE: To toast the chopped pecans, spread them evenly in a shallow baking pan. Bake the pecans at 350 degrees F for 5 to 10 minutes or until they're browned, stirring the nuts once or twice during baking
