How to Plant Sweet Potatoes

This is a video on growing sweet potato plants in your own garden.

Steps:
1. Spread bone meal in bed. You want to cover the box with enough bone meal that it makes a nice dusting.
2. Use garden rake or tiller to mix it in the soil.
3. Smooth the soil nicely.
4. Plant your sweet potatoes about a foot apart. Dig the holes about 4 inches deep. (Don't plant too early. Sweet potato plants do not like cold weather.)
5. Sprinkle fertilizer around them. Use 10x10x10. (10% nitrogen/ 10% phosphorus/ 10% pot ash.)
6. Water your plants and keep an eye on them throughout the growing season.

I tried it for the first time this year and other then a few sneezes my allergies have stayed under control. 1 teaspoon a day whether you need it or not and a teaspoon when you start to get the itchy eyes and it stopped mine and I have had seasonal allergies all my life.

Also Chicken poop or Cock-A-Doddle Do works good too. I fertilize heavy in the early season for Greens and that's good for the start of my summer plants. Then Fertilize a little mid-season.

As soon as they sprout, put it in the soil and get that growing into vines or whatever they call it. Once you have one plant established you can take cuttings from it to grow more sweet potatoes.

You'll Need:

* 2 cans yams, cut into smaller pieces (some syrup drained)
* 1/2 C. white sugar
* 1/2 C. brown sugar
* 1/2 tsp. each (allspice, apple pie spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger)
* 1/2 C. molasses
* 3/4 C. Karo syrup (light or dark)
* 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
* 1 tsp. lemon extract or 1 T. lemon juice
* 1 T. sherry
* 3/4 tsp. black pepper

Procedures : Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients and bake until yams are soft
